Pen and Ink Work Featuring Deane Burgess’ “Kansas Notables” Collection

Pen and Ink artist Deane Burgess will be featured at Soho’s February First Friday Art Walk.  Formerly of Westmoreland and Wamego, but a Topekan since the 1960’s, Mr. Burgess has created pen and ink drawings since he was a young boy growing up on a Kansas farm.  A graduate of Kansas State University and a 38 year educator and administrator for Topeka Public Schools (as both an art teacher and director), Deane’s work continues after numerous years to be seen everywhere from the cover of Topeka mainstay Speck’s menu to Topeka High’s commencement program.  From landscape to still life to well-known Topeka places of business, worship, and schools, his skillful attention to detail captures the realism of life around him.  The Capitol building, Topeka High School, the Santa Fe Building, Grace Episcopal, Speck’s, Landon Middle School, First Baptist Church, and the quintessential symbol of Kansas, “the Sunflower,” are just some examples of the lifelong Kansan’s art.

Meet Deane, browse Soho’s distinctive furnishings and gifts, and view Mr. Burgess’ artwork on display Friday, Feb. 5th from 5:30-8:30 at Soho Interiors located at 3129 SW Huntoon Street.  A slice of east coast style, combined with the comfort and hospitality Kansas is so well known for, makes Soho Interior’s Pen and Ink feature the highlight of a marvelous night out.
