Art Transforms Women’s Lives this December Art Walk

Soho Interiors has dedicated this December First Friday Art Walk to Project Lydia, an economic development project assisting women in deep poverty-stricken villages in Eastern Uganda. Ugandan widows and abandoned wives craft stunning necklaces by hand-rolling recycled paper into beads of every shape, size, and color. Hand-dyed African Batik cloth becomes handbags, and picked banana leaves are woven into artful, useful baskets. Join us for this timely event and give gifts this Christmas that will transform lives. A presentation will be given at 7pm.  Dec. 4, 2015 Learn more about Project Lydia here.

Art that Compels: an Evening with David Zlotky

Oct 2, 2015 First Friday Art Walk
David Zlotky is a painter and photographer whose work is in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air & Space Museum, the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri and the U.S. Air Force Art Collection. His photographs have been exhibited at the MPLS Photography Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and his image, Morning Light, was recently selected for a show at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Using digital and traditional photographic techniques, and archivally printed, David’s work celebrates the play of light on the landscape. His fine art landscape photography is represented in private and corporate collections. The images are characterized by strong composition and a painter’s sense of aesthetics. Whether in traditional black and white or muted color, the work pays homage to the natural beauty of Kansas, Colorado, Wisconsin and California.
David’s photographs of French street scenes provide an intriguing look at the beautiful, everyday world that is Northern France.
David’s photographs of locations in Topeka provide a fresh appreciation of that which tends to be overlooked because of it’s closeness. Local barns, Shunga Creek, Crestview Park, and eloquent streets will surprise the viewer when seen through David’s lens.

An Evening Inspired, Art Walk July

Join us this Friday, July 10th, with local artist Madeline Tollefson.  Relaxing and Rooted.  Timeless and Poignant. 5:30-8:30

Madeline Tollefson's photo.

Artist’s Bio

Madeline Tollefson began painting in watercolor in 1990 to fill the void of four children and three foster children who began college or married life, and to renew an interest pursued before her marriage.

She has studied continuously with Ellen Duncan (KWS, CWS, AWS) and paints weekly with the Tuesday Artists, at Lecompton, Kansas.  She maintains a private home studio.  Additionally, Madeline has studied in workshops presented by Doug Walton, Tony Couch, Eric Wiegardt, Karlyn Holman, and numerous others.

Styles include Photorealism, Impressionism, and the Colorist tradition.

Goals are to glorify God and give joy with her watercolors, and to encourage others to pursue art at any age.  Dreams include being a credit to her great-aunt, who before her death in 1955 was a charter member of the “Philadelphia Ten” women Impressionists group.  Learn more about this progressive women’s artist group (1917-1945) here.

The Philadelphia Ten

Madeline’s paintings hang in several private homes and in area businesses.
